Breakfast For Lovers Of Real, Whole Food
Food Ethos
Macrobiotics is a path, a philosophy, which recognises the importance of wholesome nourishment through quality natural food & cooking, clean air & water, & flourishing trees. It is a worldwide movement helping people take a healthy authentic path. It has been at the forefront of the creation of the natural foods movement, natural agriculture, fabrics & futons & has founded schools of Shiatsu, Feng Shui, Natural Cooking & Healing, & consciously works towards a vision of a Peaceful World.
Macrobiotics recognises that our everyday food is a powerful form of nourishment. Food makes our blood & is a building block for our physical body. Food affects how we feel, think, develop and respond to all around us. How food is grown, transported, cooked & eaten is the basis of all economies and life on Earth. Macrobiotics upholds the view that the most sustainable and healthy way to grow food is through organic, locally grown, natural agriculture and land management.
Our Meals
We honour the nutritional needs of vegetarians and vegans. Menu choices are delicious, plentiful and can be customised according to needs and budget on request. Many dishes are naturally vegan; others are inspired and adapted from traditional favourites and international cuisines to healthier plant-based versions. There are many different vegetable proteins available as alternatives to meat, but we also offer the flexibility of fish dishes on request. As the cooking focuses on plant-based foods, we naturally cater for most special diets, from dairy and gluten-free to low-fat and diabetic. We use fruit juices and concentrates, maple and grain syrups as well as other natural, unrefined sweeteners in desserts, cakes and biscuits, all dairy-free, but never compromise on taste.
Community
East Chiltington is a small rural parish and home to about 180 families. Many homes are scattered along single track rural lanes, but School Cottages are situated immediately behind Hollycroft, in the centre of the parish, one of 2 clusters of housing. Here there is an open space & children's playground. An annual summer fayre is held here, & in 2012, East Chiltington hosted a soap box derby & community ceilidh. School Cottages are on Chapel Lane, leading to a beautiful 13th Century church and famous Jolly Sportsman pub. Although too small for a parish hall, school or shops (the nearest are Plumpton), East Chiltington nevertheless is a cohesive & thriving community. Many families have lived & worked here for many generations. School Cottages were built in the 1930s originally to house agricultural labourers and most land remains in agricultural use.
Out & About
East Chiltington lies in the South Downs National Park. These hills stretch through south east England, from Winchester to the coast at Eastbourne.
The South Downs Way (less than 2 miles away) is accessed from the house by a network of foot paths & is one of many National Trails or long distance routes for walking, cycling & horse riding. The pathway traverses a magnificent landscape of chalk grasslands, woodland and rivers in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A pick up service is provided for walkers at the Half Moon pub, junction of the B2116 & Plumpton Lane (TQ 36352 1320). Walks & maps are available to cabin guests.
Plumpton & the Agricultural College, Plumpton Racing & BR Station (connecting to London, Lewes & Eastbourne) are close by. Ditchling, Lewes, Brighton & Brighton Universities, Glynebourne Opera, Cuckmere Haven & Seven Sisters Coastline (including Burling Gap, Beachy Head), Sheffield Park & the Bluebell Railway, Ashdown Forest are all 10 to 25 minutes by car.
